Balbin ... a
A male seal was found on 31 March 1992 in Jurata's vicinity. It was 2 months old then and was still covered with the white fluff. It weighted 14 kilos and was approx. 1 meter long. It was sick and wounded.
Balbin was taken to the Marine Station of the University of Gdansk in Hel, where for the first few days it was kept in a specially facilitated container. It refused to eat. After disinfecting of wounds, the seal was placed in an improvised pool, where it remained for five years.
Agata, Anna, Krystyna, Ewa - were born between 1st and 3rd May 1998 in their natural habitat of the Estonian island Allirahu.
On 3rd April 1998 the little seals were transported to the Marine Station in Hel. Before they could join the seals in pools of Hel, they underwent a four-week-long quarantine in a specially facilitated isolation pool. Here they experienced their first contact with water as well as learned to eat.
